π The Unexpected Queen
The Unexpected Queen introduces us to Sera, a nineteen-year-old living on the island of Piscantur.
Her life isn't exactly the stuff of fairytales. Sera has settled into a difficult but familiar routine, spending her days working at the market, selling the unique fruit she created, and caring for people who don't always seem worthy of the devotion she gives them.
Then she meets Dankin, a mysterious shipwrecked stranger.
And suddenly, everything Sera thought she knew about her life begins to shift. ππ
Dankin arrives carrying secrets, romance, and an unexpected gift that pulls Sera toward a future she never could have imagined.
What really draws me to this story is the way Sera feels like a genuinely young heroine rather than someone written as impossibly wise for her age. She's only nineteen. She's emotional. She's impulsive. She can be naΓ―ve and stubborn. She makes decisions in the moment, fights against choices being made for her, and sometimes has to figure things out after the consequences arrive.
But she can also forgive, adapt, care deeply, and keep moving forward.
And then there's Sera and Dankin. π
Their relationship isn't perfectly polished or effortless. It has sharp edges, complications, questionable decisions, tenderness, tension, and plenty of reasons to keep wondering what will happen next.
Honestly? Those imperfect relationships can be some of the most interesting ones to read.
Add in an immersive fantasy setting and those wonderful βWAITβ¦ WHAT?!β moments that make you stare at the page for a second, and this sounds exactly like the kind of fantasy story I love getting lost in.
I'm keeping this spoiler-free because discovering those surprises yourself is half the fun. πβ¨

π°πΉ Castle of Broken Dreams
Now THIS series has a special place on my bookshelf.
I have had the opportunity to beta and ARC read every book in A.R. Kaufer's Stolen Royalty series as it currently stands, and I have loved watching these stories come together.
The books are connected through the series, but each story is also designed to stand on its own, so you can read them individually or dive into the whole collection. ππ
And Castle of Broken Dreams brings us a twisted fairytale full of fae magic, curses, danger, romance, and some very familiar Sleeping Beauty vibes. πΉβ¨
Aurora Rose was cursed as a baby.
As a fae princess destined to inherit the throne, Rose has spent her childhood sheltered from the dangers surrounding her. But when she's ten years old, she realizes that her best friend, Philip Greyson, knows much more about her situation than he's been willing to admit.
Naturally, she wants answers.
Unfortunately, the magic surrounding Rose isn't willing to wait forever.
As the curse begins creeping into the palace and the situation becomes increasingly dangerous, Rose's father is forced to do the one thing he promised himself he would never do:
Send his daughter away.
Rose is hidden in the mortal realm, while Greyson is left searching for the girl he desperately wants to see again.
But when he finally finds her, he unknowingly brings the very thing everyone was trying to protect her from straight to her doorstep.
And that's when everything begins falling apart. ππΉ
This is one of the things I enjoy so much about the Stolen Royalty books. They take the bones of fairytales we grew up knowing and transform them into something that feels familiar while still giving us a completely different story.
The world-building is beautiful, the fantasy elements pull you in, the romance and spice are balanced nicely with the story, and they have consistently given me that βjust one more chapterβ feeling.
If you love Sleeping Beauty, The Last Unicorn, fae fantasy, or fairytale retellings that aren't afraid to twist the original story, Castle of Broken Dreams is definitely one to check out.

πβ¨ The Dancing Dragon
Okay⦠this premise is ADORABLE.
Imagine you're a bookstore owner getting ready for a Halloween night with your D&D friends.
And thenβ¦
β‘ LIGHTNING. β‘
Suddenly, the pub looks a little too convincing.
The fantasy world around you doesn't look like decorations.
And the characters who should exist only inside a D&D campaign are very, very real.
Whoops. ππ
That's exactly the kind of chaos waiting in The Dancing Dragon.
Our heroine unknowingly travels through a portal and lands in a fantasy realm, where her Halloween witch costume causes one tiny complication:
Everyone thinks she's an actual witch.
And that's only the beginning.
She soon crosses paths with a fae who believes he has been cursed to never find true love. πβ¨
From there, the story gives us mistaken identities, magic, adventure, witty banter, romance, misunderstandings, and even a jealous would-be love interest who would very much prefer our unexpected visitor disappear.
This one is also a sweet, no-spice adult romance, making it a great choice when you want something magical, romantic, funny, and quick without the heat.
It sounds like the perfect little fantasy escapeβespecially for readers who love D&D, bookstores, portal fantasy, fae romance, and stories that don't take themselves too seriously.
And honestly, accidentally falling into your D&D fantasy world while dressed like a witch?
That's either the beginning of a dream vacation or an absolute disaster.
Possibly both. ππ
