Mixtape did more than tell me a story—it brought pieces of my own past rushing back. Little moments like mixing every slushy flavor together, making mixtapes and mix CDs, hanging out with friends, and attaching certain songs to important memories made this game feel incredibly personal. It captures the kind of nostalgia that is warm and comforting, but also a little bittersweet.
This is a shorter, story-driven experience, but it uses its time beautifully. Following three close friends through the memories that helped shape them feels like flipping through an old photo album while a carefully chosen playlist plays in the background. Some moments made me smile, some made me emotional, and others reminded me of experiences I had not thought about in years.
A story built from memories
Discovering the characters' memories is one of my favorite parts of Mixtape. Instead of simply being told who these friends are, we get to step inside the moments that mattered to them. The story explores friendship, growing up, change, and the strange mixture of excitement and sadness that comes with leaving one chapter of life behind.
The emotional moments never take away from the game's comforting feeling. There is humor, playfulness, and the wonderfully ordinary chaos of being young. That balance keeps the story heartfelt without making it feel heavy all the time.

Honestly, my biggest complaint is simply that I wanted more. Mixtape is not a long game, and I would have happily spent several more hours with these characters and their memories. A few additional chapters or more time between the major story moments could have made the friendships feel even deeper.
At the same time, the shorter length makes it easy to return to. I have enjoyed playing it more than once, and revisiting the story feels a little like replaying a favorite album—familiar, comforting, and capable of making me notice something different each time.
Mixtape earns a heartfelt 5/5 from me. It is beautiful, emotional, comforting, and deeply nostalgic. If you love story-driven adventures, memorable music, and games that make you think about the moments and friendships that shaped your own life, this is one you should not miss.
