Meet my newest little adventurer! đâš
Iâm officially starting a fresh journey through Final Fantasy XIV, and Iâve decided that this playthrough is going to be a little different. Iâm not worried about getting to endgame as quickly as possible or playing everything the âperfectâ way.
I want to wander. I want to learn. I want to collect tiny creatures, make adorable outfits, fish when I should probably be saving the world, and investigate absolutely anything that looks even remotely shiny.
In other words: the loot goblin has entered Eorzea. đ
So whether youâre brand-new to FFXIV, returning after a long break, or just looking for ways to make the game feel a little more cozy, Iâm bringing you along with me. Here are some beginner tips, easily missed features worth exploring, and ways Iâm turning this massive MMO into my own cozy little fantasy adventure.
đ± Start Small: You Donât Need to Understand Everything
Opening an MMO can feel like being handed a new job with seventeen departments and absolutely no orientation.
There are quests everywhere. Menus inside menus. People riding things you immediately want. Someone looks like a woodland fairy, someone else looks like a final boss, and youâre standing there trying to find your map.
Breathe. Youâre allowed to be new.
My approach is to learn what I need for the next small adventureânot everything I might need six months from now.
A few habits make the beginning easier:
- Keep following the Main Scenario Quests. The story unlocks much of the game, so leveling alone wonât open everything.
- Keep up with your class and job quests. They matter for learning your role and unlocking abilities.
- Read new ability descriptions. A minute spent understanding a button helps more than filling your hotbar with mysteries.
- Donât feel obligated to clear every side quest immediately. Save some wandering for when you actually want to wander.
The story is my anchor. The shiny distractions are my personality.
đ§ Make Traveling Less Confusing
When you reach a new settlement, take a moment to get familiar with it instead of immediately sprinting toward the next quest marker.
Attune to its aetheryte when available, and activate the smaller Aethernet shards as you explore cities. Future you will appreciate having those travel options.
Also, remember Return. Once unlocked, it takes you back to your home point without a teleport fee, although it has a cooldown. Set that home point somewhere useful. Official game manual
My little cozy rule? Find one favorite spot in each city.
A bench. A quiet corner. Somewhere with a pretty view.
It makes a huge map feel more like a collection of familiar places.
âïž Make Learning Dungeons Less Intimidating
You do not need to arrive at your first dungeon with the confidence of someone who has been playing for ten years.
If youâre joining other players, a quick âHi! First time here!â is enough. Ask questions when you need to, pay attention to explanations, and give yourself permission to learn.
For supported duties, Duty Support lets you bring NPC companions instead of queuing with other players. Itâs a useful option when you want to practice without the social pressure. It doesnât cover every duty. Official Duty Support guide
A few beginner reminders:
- Read your abilities before entering.
- Check that your gear is equipped and repaired.
- Move out of obvious danger indicators when you can.
- Ask about unfamiliar mechanics instead of silently panicking.
A mistake is informationânot a personality flaw.
We are learning. Occasionally, we are learning while lying on the floor. đ
đ Unlock Your Fashion Era
I would like to save the world, yes.
But I would also like my outfit to make sense.
Glamour lets you change how equipment looks without replacing its underlying stats, within the systemâs restrictions. It unlocks through the level 15 quest âIf I Had a Glamour.â Official glamour guide
You donât need a huge wardrobe to make this fun. Start with a tiny theme:
- Woodland wanderer.
- Purple-and-pink spellcaster.
- Cozy traveling scholar.
- Slightly suspicious treasure hunter.
- âI definitely came here for the quest and not the boots.â
Try things on before spending your gil, and resist the urge to buy every cute item immediately.
That last sentence was mostly directed at me.
đž Turn Your Journey Into a Scrapbook
One easily missed feature worth trying is Group Pose, activated by typing /gpose into chat.
Itâs an in-game photo mode with camera, lighting, motion-pause, and filter options. You donât need outside editing tools to start making lovely screenshots. Official Group Pose guide
My screenshot bucket list:
- My characterâs first day.
- The first outfit that feels like her.
- A favorite sunset.
- A tiny companion doing something adorable.
- A âhow did I get here?â moment.
- The same location in different weather.
- A picture with new friends.
You donât have to wait until your character looks impressive. The awkward little beginning is part of the story, too.
đŁ Give Yourself Permission to Have a Hobby
Sometimes the most enjoyable thing in a giant fantasy world is doing something very small.
FFXIV offers fishing, crafting, gathering, and collecting alongside its combat adventures. These activities have their own unlocks and progression, so treat them as things to explore graduallyânot another giant checklist. Official FFXIV overview
Pick one curiosity.
Maybe you want to try fishing. Maybe making your own items sounds satisfying. Maybe you simply want a peaceful reason to explore.
My suggested rule: try the activity before deciding you need to master it.
You can enjoy catching a few fish without turning the evening into a research project.
The fish do not need a five-year plan.
đȘ Take a Gold Saucer Detour
For a change of pace, put the Manderville Gold Saucer on your adventure list.
The unlock quest is âIt Could Happen to You,â offered by the Well-heeled Youth in Ulâdahâs Steps of Nald at X:9.6, Y:9.0. It requires level 15 and the appropriate early main-story progress. Official quest listing, official prerequisite information
Treat it like a little amusement-park visit: explore, try an activity, and see what you enjoy.
Not every detour needs to become an optimized routine.
Sometimes âI had fun and got distractedâ is the entire point.
đ ïž Easily Missed Tricks That Make Things Smoother
Save your gear sets
Once you unlock your second class, gear sets become available. They let you save equipment combinations and switch between them more easily. You can even put them on a hotbar. Remember to update a saved set after changing equipment. Official gear-set guide
Less menu wrestling. More adventuring.
Make the interface comfortable
Spend a few minutes adjusting your controls, display, hotbars, and sound settings. The game has extensive configuration options; the default setup doesnât have to be your forever setup. Official configuration guide
Start with whatever bothers you most. Tiny text? Awkward button placement? Too much visual noise?
Comfort counts.

Back up your settings
Once your layout feels right, use the gameâs settings-backup options. Configuration isnât automatically identical across different clients, and the official guide explains both local and server backups. Official backup instructions
Protect the hotbar arrangement you finally stopped arguing with.
Check trial restrictions before making plans
If youâre playing the free trial, some systemsâincluding the Market Board, trading, retainers, and Free Companiesâarenât available.
That matters if a guide tells you to buy something from another player or join a Free Company. It isnât necessarily something youâve failed to unlock. Official free-trial restrictions
đŻïž My Recipe for a Cozy Play Session
âCozyâ doesnât mean every part of FFXIV is gentle. There are battles, challenging moments, and an emotional story.
For me, cozy means giving myself room to enjoy the experience without turning every login into a performance review.
Hereâs a simple session idea:
- Choose one small goal. A little story progress, one unlock, or learning one activity.
- Leave room for a detour. A pretty path absolutely counts.
- Do something just for fun. Try an outfit, take a picture, or explore.
- Finish somewhere peaceful. Give the adventure a little closing moment.
On low-energy days, the goal can be smaller.
You donât have to earn your right to relax by completing a dungeon first.
And if youâre playing with friends, agree on the mood beforehand: story night, learning night, screenshot night, or absolute nonsense night.
Those are different adventures. All are valid.
đ A Cozy Loot-Goblin Challenge
If you want a playful starting point, try these at your own pace:
- Find a favorite resting spot.
- Take a screenshot you genuinely love.
- Learn one button youâve been ignoring.
- Try one noncombat activity.
- Create an outfit theme using what you have.
- Explore somewhere without rushing.
- Write down one thing you want to try next.
No deadline. No streak. No punishment for forgetting.
Weâre making memories, not assigning homework.
đ Come Adventure With Me
This is only the beginning of this characterâs story, and Iâm planning to share the journey as I goâmy discoveries, cozy finds, beginner mistakes, screenshots, favorite unlocks, glamour obsession, loot-goblin moments, and probably plenty of chaos.
If you play FFXIV too, come find Adorabellapixel and adventure with me.
And if youâre another sprout? đ± Even better. We can have absolutely no idea what weâre doing together. đđ
Whatâs your favorite cozy thing to do in FFXIVâand whatâs one beginner tip you wish someone had told you sooner? Keep it spoiler-free so our fellow sprouts can explore, too!
